INGRID & ANDREW WEDDING AT THE CAMBRIDGE BUTTERFLY CONSERVATORY

When snowflakes fall on a freshly covered white carpet of snow in Cambridge, you feel like you’re in one of those snow globes from the souvenir shop, or at least we did on Ingrid and Andrew’s wedding day. The trees, old and tall, line the streets instead of sidewalks. The charming houses reminded me of scenic Cape Cod, where I spent many a childhood summer and have fond memories of. Some of them had those rooster weather vanes at the top, others had chimes out front that faintly rang in the gentlest still breeze of this winter morning.

When I met Ingrid for her hair and makeup trial, she and I bonded over our love of nature and the natural world, as she told me her wedding was taking place at the butterfly conservatory in Cambridge and that she was hand-dying her dress herself at the bottom, in a unique way that reminded one of butterflies wings. A real nature lover and environmentalist, she opted for handmade flowers, made from repurposed paper, and the results were unbelievable!

Except for the flat tire my hairstylist and I got while driving through a mini-hail storm on the 401 (when it rains, it hails!) en route to this extremely relaxed bride’s wedding, we had an exceptional day!

Though I definitely lost my chill because of what happened, Ingrid was so generously reassuring, it was remarkable! I think she knew that because she and her party are so damn lovely inside and out, that we wouldn’t need that much time to get them ready. Indeed, by the time we were done, we had time to spare for everyone to enjoy seconds (and thirds!;) of the huge and delicious vegetarian brunch the hostess and maid of honour prepared, and to share in a toast to the bride and groom.

Looking back on this adventurous winter day, my takeaway is that when you trust the universe will put good people on your path, it does. Simple as that! Aside from the loveliest bride on ours that day, we were so grateful to have not been in a serious car accident and were grateful for the nicest tow-truck driver and rental car-people on our path that morning.

Looking forward to many more winter weddings! Here are some beautiful snaps from Ingrid and Andrew’s big day, courtesy of photographer Shannon Robbins. All hair styled by Maureen Posadas for Maya Goldenberg Eco-Beauty Professional. All makeup by Maya Goldenberg.

Super duper natural, no-makeup makeup, this bride opted for no false lashes and as natural a makeup as possible and she looks gorgeous, doesn't she? Less is more!
